Frequently Asked Questions
How the awards work, how businesses are selected, how to vote, and how to join the ceremony.
About the Awards
What are the British Kebab Awards?
The British Kebab Awards is a national celebration of the UK’s kebab, grill, and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food industry, now in its 15th year, run in partnership with CEFTUS (Centre for Turkey Studies). The awards recognise the best restaurants, takeaways, and suppliers across the country, and are supported by MPs, local councillors, and the public.
How many categories are there?
There are 22 categories this year, covering regional restaurants and takeaways (for example Best Kebab Restaurant — North of England, and Best Kebab House in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), specialist categories (Best Kosher Shawarma, Best Lebanese, Best Vegan Kebab, Best Greek), and industry-wide awards (Chef of the Year, Best Newcomer, Customer Satisfaction, Supplier and Manufacturer Award, and more).
Who is behind the awards?
The awards are organised by the British Kebab Awards team in partnership with CEFTUS, with support from Members of Parliament, judges from politics, industry, and media, and sponsors from across the sector.
Semi-Finalists and Selection Criteria
How do businesses become semi-finalists?
Businesses are nominated and entered into the competition across the 22 categories. Once entered, all semi-finalists are added to the official list and become eligible for public voting and MP/councillor endorsement.
How are finalists and winners selected?
Selection is based on a combined points system:
- Public votes — 2 points per vote
- MP or councillor endorsement — 250 points per endorsement
- Star ratings/reviews — 50 points per star (so a 5-star review is worth 250 points, 4-star 200 points, 3-star 150 points, and so on)
These points are totalled within each category, and the highest-scoring semi-finalists progress to finalist stage. A panel of judges also reviews standout entries.
Is a semi-finalist guaranteed to become a finalist or win?
No. Being named a semi-finalist means a business has been entered into the competition — it does not guarantee progression to finalist or winner status, which depends on the points earned during the voting period.
What happens if my business’s listed details are wrong?
Please let us know as soon as possible at [email protected] so we can correct our records. Accurate contact and business details also help make sure your MP, councillor, and customers can find and support you correctly.
Voting
How do I vote, and can anyone vote?
Yes — voting is open to the public. Anyone can vote for their favourite semi-finalists using the official voting page: Vote now.
When does voting open and close?
Voting opens alongside the semi-finalist announcement and closes ahead of the finalist announcement on 15 October 2026.
Can businesses promote their own listing and ask customers to vote?
Yes, absolutely. Businesses are encouraged to share their semi-finalist status on social media and ask customers, friends, and their local community to vote. Using the hashtag #BritishKebabAwards15 helps us see and reshare posts.
Can I ask my local MP or councillor to support my nomination?
Yes — this is encouraged and is a separate, high-value form of support (worth 250 points per endorsement), alongside public votes.
Can I vote more than once?
No. One vote per person. Repeat votes from the same person are not counted.
