Wigston kebab takeaway hopes for delivery of national award
A Leicestershire takeaway is hoping to take delivery of one the industry's top accolades in the British Kebab Awards.
Istanbul BBQ House in Wigston has been shortlisted in the JUST EAT Best Delivery category.
Kebab houses around the country are vying for the industry's top culinary accolades in a public vote.
Serjan Gaygusuz, manager at the Istanbul BBQ House, pleaded with the people to vote for them.
He said: "It is great that we are in with a chance of winning a national award.
"I hope all our customers and their friends and even people who don't know us but want a local business to do well, vote for us."
Leicester West MP Keith Vaz is on the judging panel which makes the final decision following a public vote.
Categories in the British Kebab Awards range from Best Takeaway to Best Restaurant and Best Fine Dining experience.
The first kebab shop opened in North London in 1966 and there are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling around 2,500 tonnes of lamb and chicken doners a week.MP Nadhim Zahawi is also on the judging panel who will announce the winners at a VIP-studded ceremony on March 23 at London's Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel.

The British kebab industry contributes over £2.2 billion annually to the British economy, supporting around 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry in the UK.
There are about 200 doner kebab manufacturers in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £750m.
