A TURKISH restaurant based in Prestwich has missed out on scooping a prestigious award in the annual British Kebab Awards 2017.

Topkapi Palace, in Bury New Road, was shortlisted for this year's awards - flying the flag for Prestwich in the Best Kebab House Regional category.

Although the restaurant missed out on the top place — which was awarded to Ellesmere Port Kebab House, in Ellesmere Port — Ertan Karalar, manager at the Prestwich branch, said it was an honour to be nominated.

"We feel extremely proud that we were recognised and shortlisted in the regional category.

"Loyal customers and new customers have been in to eat since and mentioned it, which is fantastic.

"We appreciate all the support from our customers and thank them for nominating us.

"Unfortunately we just missed out but we are more motivated to continue offering a high standard of food and service.

"Hopefully next year we'll make it back onto the shortlist and maybe even win."

The winners were revealed at British Kebab Awards at London's Westminster Park Plaza Hotel, on Sunday.
