A TURKISH restaurant based in Prestwich has been nominated in the annual British Kebab Awards 2017.

The shortlist is out for this year’s prestigious awards and Topkapi Palace, in Bury New Road, has made it on the list.

The restaurant is flying the flag for Prestwich in the Best Kebab House Regional category.

Seref Dursun, of Topkapi Palace, in Deansgate, is up for Chef of the Year, where he will be up against chefs from across the country.

Ertan Karalar, manager at the Prestwich branch, said: “It’s such an honour to be nominated for this year’s awards.

“I believe our hard work has been recognised by our loyal customers and even customers who have only visited maybe once before.

“We don’t serve takeaway-style kebabs — all our kebabs are grilled and served in our restaurant, which is of a four star to five-star quality.

“We have as much of a chance of winning as the other nominations and anything is possible.

“Even if we weren’t to win, being nominated is fantastic for us.

“Topkapi Palace was founded 37 years ago but we opened in Prestwich only two years ago, so to be running for Best Kebab House is an achievement in itself.”

The winners will be revealed on the night of the British Kebab Awards which will take place at London’s Westminster Park Plaza Hotel on Sunday.

Ibrahim Dogus, founder of the British Kebab Awards, said: “There’s stiff competition out there. More than 5,000 businesses receive nominations each year so Topkapi Palace should be congratulated for reaching the shortlist.

“Getting enough votes to reach the final in a category like Best Kebab House outside London means they are clearly well respected in Prestwich for their kebab cooking skills. I wish them the very best of luck. If they are successful, this year we’ve created Bira, the world’s first beer specially brewed to suit kebabs, should anyone want to toast their success.”
