Liverpool kebab shop is officially the best takeaway outside London
Berry Street takeaway picks up prize at British Kebab Awards held in London.
A Liverpool kebab house has walked off with the prestigious prize of best takeaway outside of London.
Botan Kebab House on Berry Street in Liverpool city centre was named one of the best places to grab a kebab at the British Kebab Awards held in London tonight.
Thousands of kebab businesses were nominated by meat eaters from across the country, but only 14 restaurants made the “best takeaway outside London” shortlist.
Despite his success, manager Babir Bagmati was still hard at work tonight serving hungry customers.
He said: “My dad is at the awards ceremony and he phoned to tell me the good news.
“It’s a great feeling and I’m really excited about our kebab house being the best in the country outside London. It’s recognition for the effort we put in.”
Babir said the takeaway’s success was all down to his family’s unique chilli sauce recipe and good old fashioned customer service.
Opened in 1989, Botan was taken over by the Bagmati family ten years later and has since become something of a Liverpool institution, known for its impressive range of kebabs, burgers and pizzas.
Alongside its latest accolade, Botan was also one of the most nominated kebab houses by ECHO readers.
It went head-to-head in the finals with fellow Merseyside kebab house Medo on East Bank Street, Southport. They were both nominated for the best takeaway outside London award, with Cypriana Greek Restaurant on Lark Lane nominated as one of the best delivery restaurants.
The British Kebab Awards ceremony was held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel.
