Celebrating all-things kebabs
This week, JUST EAT sponsored the third annual British Kebab Awards – championing our favourite nocturnal nibble.
There were loads of gongs dished out on the night, from Best Fine Dining to Young Kebab Chef of the Year, and you can see if your local JUST EAT kebab shop was a winner by scrolling below. Here on The Mini Feed, We thought we’d take the opportunity to dish out a few alternative awards that celebrate the weird and wonderful world of kebabs.
World’s Oldest Kebab shop…
Winner: Anglo Saxon ruin in London
Archaeologists make loads of interesting discoveries, but none more so than that Saxons around over 1,000 years ago loved kebabs. History buffs uncovered kebab-making paraphernalia at a London dig site. And, before you ask, no they weren’t on JUST EAT.
Most Un-necessarily Extravagant Kebab…
Winner: Some lah-de-dah chef
Some things in life are unimprovable, and the humble kebab is one such masterpiece that shouldn’t be meddled with. That’s we were all a bit gob-smacked by this pricey affair, created by the UK’s Food Network channel and coming in at a whopping £750.
We’ll settle for: Large Donner in pitta (£4.50), can of Rubicon (60p), Leeds Festival tee and PJ bottoms (model’s own).
Special Award for Dedication to Love of Kebabs…
Winner: Chris Stark, Radio 1 Presenter
Cheeky BBC Radio 1 scamp Chris Stark was so impressed by the existence of the British Kebab Awards that he was set a challenge by fellow-DJ Scott Mills to try and present an award at the bash. After blagging a posh suit and with three hour’s notice, Chris was invited to present the Best Newcomer award. Strong work, Chris!
The real winners…
Among the big winners at the actual British Kebab Awards were a few restaurants you’ll find on JUST EAT. The Best Delivery gong went to Kebabalicious in Manchester, with Rochdale’s Istan Blue also highly commended. Elsewhere, the award for Best Kebab House in Northern Ireland went to Belfast’s The Sphinx, and Javits of Edinburgh scooped Best Kebab House in Scotland. Congrats to all our winning kebab shops, and to the many more who were nominated or highly commended. We’re in the mood for a celebratory shish, now.
