A kebab shop manager could soon be enjoying the taste of success.

The Caterham Charcoal Grill has been shortlisted in the British Kebab Awards.

The High Street outlet has been nominated in the "best takeaway outside London" category.

Kebab houses around the country are vying for the industry's top culinary accolades as hordes of kebab cravers vote for the most delectable doners.

Owner Mehmet Algul said: "I'm pleased to hear we have been shortlisted. I was in Germany when my son called me with the good news. I have been here 22 years so I know many of my customers well, and we have made lots of friends here."

Mr Algul's shop opens every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The Mirror's online piece about the nomination got a positive response on Facebook. One reader wrote "I've voted for it, as we have those guys on speed dial."

Another said "It's my first port of call when I'm up for the weekend from Cornwall."
