Call off the search! We've found the best kebab house in Wales
Book a ticket to the Llanrumney area of Cardiff for kebab heaven after Pizza Choice was named Wales' best fast food takeaway.
Forget your city centre eateries and seaside favourites, the best kebab house in Wales has been named, and it’s in Cardiff's suburban Llanrumney district.
Pizza Choice, on Countisbury Avenue in the Cardiff suburb, got its gong at the third annual British Kebab Awards in London.
The ceremony, which was attended by more than 1,200 people, saw awards given for 14 categories, including best value, customer satisfaction and best newcomer.
Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty congratulated Pizza Choice on the award.
“I am delighted that Pizza Choice has been awarded this accolade, which highlights their contribution to the kebab industry in the UK. I wish the team many congratulations, and look forward to visiting.”
Ibrahim Dogus, Director Founder of the British Kebab Awards, said: “Many congratulations to Pizza Choice for winning Best in Wales. These awards are a true celebration of kebabs as a Great British institution, and recognise the contribution of the industry throughout the country.”
The British kebab industry contributes over £2.2 billion annually to the British economy, supporting around 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry in the UK.
A panel of judges including MPs Nadhim Zahawi, Jonathan Reynolds, Andy Love and Keith Vaz, as well as Baroness Hussein-Ece, helped decide the winners of each category – although anyone could vote for their favourite kebab outlet from a shortlist for each category.
The first kebab shop opened in North London in 1966 and there are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling an estimated 1.3m kebabs every day.
The awards are sponsored by the UK’s largest takeaway website JUST EAT, as well as Big K and Bulldog Energy Drinks, with the aim of showcasing the wide range of restaurants serving kebab styled food.
