About the British Kebab Awards

The Awards have become a fixture in the annual food awards calendar, and celebrate the growing contribution of the kebab industry to the UK.

The British kebab industry contributes over £2.2 billion annually to the British economy, supporting around 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry in the UK. There are also around 200 doner kebab manufacturers in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £750m.

The first kebab shop opened in North London in 1966 and there are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling an estimated 1.3m kebabs every day.

The first British Kebab Awards was held in British Parliament and the second Awards took place in Park Lane Sheraton in London. The Awards began as an attempt to understand and value UK’s kebab industry. The first ceremony was kindly hosted by Nadhim Zahawi Conservative MP and Keith Vaz Labour MP.

The nominations are made by members of the Houses of Parliament and the public.

4th British Kebab Awards will take place in the first months of 2016. Nominations for the New Year’s awards will open in Spring 2015. Watch this space!
